Cruisin’ through another summer

The Rockin’ Rimbey Cruz is packing it in for another successful summer.

The ‘cruz’, which took place Aug. 19, saw roughly 26 cars take part.

“It went pretty much seamlessly,” said John Browne, organizer of this year’s ‘cruz’.

The drivers toured around Rimbey, Sylvan Lake and Bentley.

While in Sylvan Lake, they met at the Walmart parking lot to fuel up, grab a bite to eat and chat about each others cars.

“Then I let them all go on their own way because my car is geared too slow for them to want to follow me all the way back,” said Browne with a laugh.

Browne drove his ‘72 Vega Stationwagon, which is geared for racing, not so much highways.

Browne said next year they might try and get a food truck together in Sylvan Lake in the Walmart parking lot for everyone to stick together.

Another eventful situation happened that day, with Rimbey Review Publisher Leah Bousfield’s car taking a roll down the hill into a ditch.

Browne recalled first seeing her sprinting out of her car to get a picture of himself turning into Bentley. That was soon followed by another man coming to him and saying, ‘we’re down a vehicle.’

Bousfield’s smart car decided to roll down the hill, as her e-brake wasn’t all the way down, causing her to get a new nickname.

“That was our entertainment for the day. She has a new nickname now. Ghost Rider.”
