David Lee Murphy headlines Winfield’s ‘Rockin the West’ concert July 6

Best way to head out to Winfield concert is to catch a shuttle bus

Summer is going to start in serious country and western style in Winfield, as the Rockin The West Concert July 6 at the Winfield Rec Grounds will feature headlining act David Lee Murphy.

The concert, sponsored by the Winfield and District Ag Society, was like striking gold in a mine said society president Corey Anderson.

“We were surprised and amazed that we were able to bring someone like David Lee Murphy to Winfield,” said Anderson by phone June 26. (See sidebar).

Anderson said the ag society was also proud of the supporting acts they booked, including the Chris Buck Band, which has songs regularly playing on the radio, and Dustin Farr, who Anderson said has a great following and many event tickets are selling on his name alone.

It will be a very busy day of events, noted Anderson. The show starts at 6 p.m. and runs for several hours.

Anderson said the after party in the arena, featuring dancing and the sounds of Wild Rose Roulette, starts at 11 p.m. Beforehand, though, after the concert there will be live entertainment, a surprise show that will only be announced the day of the performance. All Anderson could say is that it’s very high-energy, a performer who’s never appeared in Alberta before, a fire show that will run for about 20 minutes after the concerts and before the after party starts.

Anderson said he wanted to point out that parking will be at a premium, so the ag society has shuttle busses running from communities all over the region, including Twin Lakes, Battle Lake Park, Buck Lake, Breton and Pigeon Lake. He also noted a parking pass is required to park in any of the designated areas.

There will be plenty of food and drink available too. Ten food trucks will be on-site and a licensed area for drinks will be open.

Campgrounds are available nearby, lots of washrooms will be there, ATMs will be inside the venue and the event is wheelchair accessible.

More information, including tickets and parking passes, is available online at https://www.winfieldagsociety.com/rockin-the-west-concert or by calling 403-437-4872.
