A local developer has received the green light from council for a planned project in the southwest corner of Rimbey.

Following a public hearing held Feb. 25, council gave third reading to the BRIX Area Structure Plan thereby allowing owner Steffen Olsen to go ahead with his plans.

The plan includes the development of approximately 61 acres of land in the southwest corner of Rimbey. Development is to take place in three stages with the first phase to include six two-acre residential lots. Phases two and three are to include commercial and industrial development.

Olsen is pleased council gave the approval. “It all went very smoothly.”

The area structure plan identifies key issues such as land use, servicing, aesthetic design, transportation network and municipal reserve issues.

The developer doesn’t foresee business slowing down in the future.

“I’m already booked for the summer,” he said. “Last summer my worst problem was the labor market (finding employees).”
