Drivers will see improvements to highway between Rimbey and Winfield

The highway between Rimbey and Winfield, also known as Highway 20 and Twp Road 440, will see a significant improvement for drivers.

“That intersection was widened to provide additional room for vehicles to bypass other vehicles that are turning at that intersection,” said Jason Nixon, MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre.

The Highway 20 and Highway 611 intersection shoulder widening was also completed. That project also included paving, intersection improvements, replacing damaged culverts, highway sign insulation and guardrail improvements.

“It was a project that cost about $10.25 million. It began in May and we believe it will be completed this month (end of July),” said Nixon, who is also Alberta’s Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services.

The project encompasses about 37 kilometres of Highway 20 upgraded with that project.

Looking ahead, Nixon said his next priority is working with the Department of Transportation on Highway 20 between Rimbey and Bentley.

“That’s the logical next spot that we need to get done. I’ve heard that lots from constituents and I drive that road a lot as well.”
