Floods push owners to sell

.

TREENA MIELKE/Rimbey Review

The devastation and damage caused by two heavy floods this year was the determining factor in a couple’s decision to let go of a business they had worked hard to build for almost a decade.

Doug and Paula Madu will close the Rimbey Golf Course after eight years of doing their best to make it a viable business.

It was a decision that did not come lightly, said Paula Madu.

“Our emotions are totally mixed. We feel very sad for the people who supported us. We had great support the years we were here.”

However, the Madus believe the decision to close the course is the right one financially and will give them an opportunity to focus on their other business, Aspen Works Mechanical.

The couple hasn’t yet decided if they will remain living on the golf course.

”We will just concentrate on our plumbing business and see what the future brings,” said Madu.

The nine-hole golf course has been for sale for some time.

When they purchased the course the Madus moved to Rimbey from Crestomere.

“We enjoyed some good years,” Madu said. “We worked hard to upgrade it.”

Madu is contacting members to refund membership fees.
