Four arrested in drug search - Rimbey RCMP Report

Rimbey RCMP dealt with 40 calls for service. A wide variety of calls kept officers busy through the holidays.

Four arrested in drug search

Police in Rimbey have been investigating the ongoing issue of drugs in the community. Recently, there have been incidents involving people consuming illegal narcotics and subsequently having “bad episodes” or reactions to the drugs. In several cases, officers have dealt with people running scared of people or things that do not exist. Paranoia is a side effect of drugs they may have consumed.

On Dec. 29 officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Rimbey and arrested four people. Cocaine and MDMA (commonly referred to as “Ecstasy”) was seized during the search. One person in the residence was “wanted by police for failing to appear in court for many other serious criminal offences. As a result of the search warrant, a 21-year-old man, a resident of Rimbey has been charged with drug trafficking. Another man, also 21 years of age was charged with possession of cocaine. Two 22-year-old women in the residence, also from Rimbey, were also charged with possession of cocaine. One of the women is being held at the remand centre in Red Deer for the outstanding charges relating to the arrest warrant.

On the trail of a “gas and dash”

Other investigations included an adult female from Eckville who allegedly fills up with gas then takes off without paying. She has repeatedly committed this crime throughout the area and is also wanted for stealing goods from a store in Red Deer. Police are applying for an arrest warrant for the recent “gas and dash” and are hot on her trail.

Elder abuse investigated

Officers have been working on a difficult case involving an alleged case of abuse of an elderly couple in the community. Elder abuse is unfortunately not uncommon and can come in many forms. If you would like information on elder abuse, please call the detachment.

Internet fraud suspected

A local Internet shopper purchased an item on eBay for more than $7,000 and has now contacted police because they feel they may have fallen victim to a fraudster. There are always inherent risks when shopping on the Internet. Use caution. Always remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
