High school students recognized at awards ceremony

Several graduates from Rimbey Junior Senior High School received awards during the high school graduation and awards ceremony held at Peter Lougheed Community Centre, Saturday September 22, 2018.

The Female Athletic Extracurricular award sponsored by ECKRIM Agencies was awarded to Shaelyn Boyes.

The Male Athletic Extracurricular award sponsored by VJV Rimbey Auction was awarded to Tyler Weenink.

The Sr. High Student’s Association Leadership Award sponsored by the Rimbey Senior High School Student’s Association was awarded to Triana Hohn.

The Greatest Improvement Award sponsored by the Staff of Rimbey Medical Clinic was awarded to Katawnie Bieganek.

the Eva Tona Bandoni Estate Award sponsored by the Eva Tona Bandoni Estate was awarded to Tyler Cull.

The Alberta Teacher’s Association Education Scholarship sponsored by the Teachers of Wolf Creek Local #3 was awarded to Indiana Jones.

The following awards were for the top mark in each of the grade 12 high school subjects:

Top mark in Drama 30 sponsored by the the Springdale Players Theatre Society was awarded to Alida Granson.

Top mark in Computer Technology 30 sponsored by Oberhammer Funeral Chapels Ltd. was awarded to Marshall Johnson.

Top mark in Math 30-1 sponsored by Rimbey Value Drug Mart (Rubicon Pharmacies) was awarded to Eddie Kim.

Top mark in Math 30-2 sponsored by Rimbey Eye Care was awarded to Anna Coers.

Top mark in Math 31 sponsored by M.N.P. was awarded to Tyler Weenink.

Top mark in English 30-1 sponsored by Rimbey Family Foods was awarded to Triana Hohn.

The Fred Hull Memorial Award sponsored by Mr. John Hull was awarded to Marshall Johnson for the top mark in English 30-2.

Top mark in Physical Education 30 Boys was sponsored by Wilson’s Funeral Chapel was awarded to Hudson Scott.

The Jean Cranston Memorial award sponsored by Kent and Kathleen Beagle was awarded to Cassie Mannix and Shaelyn Boyes for the girls top mark in Phys. Ed 30.

Top mark in Food Studies 30 sponsored by Rimbey Chiropractic and Wellness Centre was awarded to Taylor Pankiw.

Top mark in Work Experience 35 sponsored by the Rimbey Chamber of Commerce was awarded to Indiana Jones.

Top mark in Social Studies 30-1 sponsored by the Rimbey Veterinary Clinic and was awarded to Triana Hohn.

Top mark in Social Studies 30-2 sponsored by the Gull Lake Golf Course was awarded to Eddie Kim.

Top mark in Physics 30 sponsored by the Rimbey Catholic Women’s League was awarded to Eddie Kim.

The Gordon Rude Memorial award sponsored by Keyera Energy for the top mark in Chemistry 30 was awarded to Triana Hohn, Eddie Kim, Elijah Maddox and Tyler Weenink .

Top mark in Art 30 sponsored by Michael’s Studio was awarded to Anna Coers.

Top mark in French 30 sponsored by The Cooperators Insurance, Rimbey was awarded to Bailey Goller and Triana Hohn.

Top mark in Biology 30 sponsored by the Rimbey Hospital & Care Centre was awarded to Triana Hohn and Stephanie Matson.

The Will Hoar Math Science award was presented to the graduates receiving the highest average in one math and two sciences OR one science and two maths. It was sponsored by Mr. Don Dewar and awarded to Triana Hohn and Eddie Kim.

The Health Care Scholarship was presented to the graduate who is enrolled in a medical program or a related field of medicine. It was sponsored by the Rimbey Hospital & Care Centre, and was awarded to Stephanie Matson.

The Wolf Creek Award sponsored by the Wolf Creek School Division was awarded to Jenna Olson.

The Wolf Creek CTS Award sponsored by the Wolf Creek School Division was awarded to Jenna Olson.

The Evergreen Rimbey CO-OP Scholarship sponsored by the Evergreen CO-OP Association was awarded to Triana Hohn and Elijah Maddox.

The Bentley Seed Cleaning Plant Scholarship, sponsored by the Bentley Seed Cleaning Co-operative Association (County and Lacombe) was awarded to Leah Trenson.

CTS Merit Contractors Association Award sponsored by the Merit Contractors Association was awarded to William Ross.

One of our most prestigious awards, the All-Around Student Award is in recognition of all-around excellence for a student graduating from Rimbey High School. This student must set a good example and be a model for others in behavior, attitude and work habits. Must be a student “looked up to” and “well thought of” by peers as well as teachers. It was sponsored by the Rimbey Kinsmen Club and awarded to Triana Hohn.

The Grumbach Agricultural Field Scholarship sponsored by the S. Grumbach Memorial and Mr. Ed Grumbach was awarded to Jenna Olson.

The John Dale Parry CA Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the John Dale Parry Memorial Fund was awarded to Triana Hohn for her consistent superior academic achievement throughout her high school career, which has contributed to the quality of life in the Rimbey area through community service.

The Agricultural Scholarship, sponsored by the Rimbey Agricultural Society was awarded to Leah Trenson.

The CHEERS award which stands for Casey Howard Effort and Enthusiasm Recognition Scholarship was created in the memory of Casey Howard, who was very active in coaching in our community, and in our school specifically coached our JV girls and boys basketball teams. It is sponsored by Classic Embroidery, County Cast-A–Waste Inc. and Deanna and Bernie French, and was presented to Indiana Jones who best exemplified the qualities Casey displayed in his life.

The Leadale Ladies Dale Ewanchuk Memorial Award sponsored by the Leedale Ladies Club, and was awarded to Triana Hohn, a student who is hard working, kind, thoughtful, considerate and respectful of others. All qualities that Dale Ewanchuk exemplified and encouraged in his students.

The Chris and Betty Harvey Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Chris and Betty Harvey Memorial Scholarship Fund was presented to Tyler Cull.

The Volunteerism Award sponsored by the Rimbey Christian Reform Church was awarded to Triana Hohn.

The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Alberta/N.W.T. Command award is presented to children and grandchildren of veterans and is based on need and mark. It was sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Alberta/N.W.T. Command and presented to Triana Hohn.

The Skeels Family Agriculture Scholarship sponsored by Dan and Karen Skeels and family was awarded to Leah Trenson.

The Repsol Oil and Gas Canada Inc. Academic Achievement Scholarship sponsored by Repsol Oil and Gas Canada Inc. was awarded to Elijah Maddox.

The Repsol Oil and Gas Canada Inc. Further Education Scholarship sponsored by Repsol Oil and Gas Canada Inc. was awarded to Triana Hohn.

The Dale Ewanchuk CTS Memorial Award is in memory of Dale Ewanchuk, beloved CTS teacher at Rimbey Jr Sr High from 1981-2011. This award was sponsored by Lone Wolf Heavy Duty Repairs and the School Staff. It was awarded to William Ross for his high interest in Woods, skills within the Woods shop, strong work ethic and a sense of humour.

The Student of Merit award sponsored by the Knights of Columbus was awarded to Joda Snyder.

The Lions Legacy Scholarship sponsored by the Rimbey Lions Club was presented to Cody Johns who has achieved above average marks through his consistent work ethic, and demonstrated leadership qualities.

The Governor General’s Academic Medal was a bronze medal awarded to the student who achieved the highest combined average in grades 11&12. The Governor General’s Medal, established in 1873, recognizes students who have achieved the highest academic average. On behalf of His Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, the medal was presented to Triana Hohn.

The Lindberg Higher Education award was presented to the student who had achieved the third highest average in grade 12 and who is enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution. It is sponsored by the Lindberg Family and awarded to Elijah Maddox.

The Valedictorian award was sponsored by Keyera Energy was presented to Triana Hohn based on her highest average of English 30-1 and four of the following courses: Chemistry 30, Biology 30, Physics 30, Social Studies 30, Math 30 Pure, Math 31 and French 30.
