In the last week, Rimbey RCMP responded to 45 calls for service. These files include but are not limited to: thirteen vehicle thefts or abandoned vehicles, or suspicious/persons or vehicle reports; two break and enter files; three theft related complaints; and one missing person report.

On October 17, an officer was able to successfully make two arrests while out on a proactive patrol. While patrolling, the member noticed an incredibly dirty vehicle that seemed to be avoiding the path of the police vehicle. The dirty vehicle was stopped and the officer was able to arrest the passenger on an outstanding warrant as well as the driver, who was involved in an incident earlier in the week.

Also on October 17, a report of a missing person was made at the Rimbey Detachment. The Rimbey RCMP are looking to locate William (Bill) Harris, 57, of Ponoka County. Bill was last spoken to by his family on October 5, 2018. He may have health concerns that need to be addressed. Bill is known to frequent, and to have associates in, Red Deer, Alberta. He was last seen in Red Deer on October 9th.

Bill is described as 5’10” tall with a slender build, grey hair and a white beard, hazel eyes and glasses, and has tattoos on both hands and lower arms, as well as scarring on his face.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Bill Harris, please call the Rimbey RCMP Detachment, your local detachment, or Crime Stoppers.

On the night of October 21, an officer was called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident. The driver of the vehicle claimed that as they were travelling, a deer made its way onto the highway and the driver was forced to swerve out of the way, thereby going into the ditch and rolling the vehicle. The vehicle was beyond repair as the damage was quite substantial. Upon arrival, the officer suspected the driver to be impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. Though no one was injured, this serves as an important reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. If you have been drinking, or are impaired in any other way, do your part and please do not get behind the wheel.

On a lighter note, a member was able to attended the Community Consultative Group meeting on October 10. The volunteer group, which has 18 members, is meant to represent the whole community, ideally having representation from the RCMP, youth, seniors, local agencies, and schools. Meeting twice per year, they discuss local emerging concerns and priorities concerning the community.

If you have any information regarding these or any other crimes, please call the local Rimbey RCMP Detachment at (403) 843-2224 or Crime Stoppers:
