Keyera buys naming rights of community centre

Town council has given the green light to a request by Keyera Corp. to purchase the naming rights of Rimbey Community Centre.

Town council has given the green light to a request by Keyera Corp. to purchase the naming rights of Rimbey Community Centre.

At its April 8 meeting, council unanimously agreed to accept Keyera’s proposal to commit to a multi-year partnership of $25,000 for five years totaling $125,000.

“I see it as a win/win,” said Coun. Paul Payson.

“It certainly will help offset the costs of the community centre,” added Coun. Scott Ellis.

Sarah Wilson, communications manager for Keyera, said no decision has been made as to what the community centre will be named or when the name change will go into effect.

“We will have to sit down with the folks who run the community centre to discuss that,” she said. “We are thrilled it (our proposal) was accepted.”

In his letter to Rick Kreklewich, Rimbey’s former rec director, David G. Smith, president and chief operating officer of Keyera, said the company’s community investment program centers on four pillars of giving: youth and education, community enhancement, environment and health and wellness.

“Keyera feels supporting the Rimbey Community Centre Complex as a named partner would enhance the programs and services you make accessible to the residents in the Rimbey community,” he said.

The Keyera Rimbey gas plant has operated in the area for the past 52 years. The gas plant employs approximately 70 people who live in and around the Rimbey community.

“As a company, we have a long-standing tradition of investing in the communities we call home. We would be proud to help you continue your commitment to providing accessible and affordable programs,” said Smith.
