Landfill paving project awarded

The Bluffton Landfill road paving project received five bids and Ponoka County councillors awarded the tender to TBL Construction.

The construction company, based out of Red Deer, was the lowest bidder at approximately $2.3 million.

There was a $55,633 gap between the next lowest bidder, Central City Asphalt, and a $592,586 gap between TBL Construction and the highest bidder, E. Construction.

The project is a 2.5-mile stretch that’s being done with asphalt pavement to a highway standard. The road won’t be as wide Highway 53 but will have a similar surface.

“That landfill is a huge asset to everybody in the county, regardless of where they live. We should keep it looking good,” said county CAO Charlie Cutforth.

The county is entering a contract only with TBL Construction, which will be subcontracting the paving to Border Paving. ANT Construction is also selling gravel for the project.

“So it’s all credible,” said Cutforth.

“A consortium of people we know,” added Reeve Gordon Svenningsen.
