Rock ‘n Rimbey is back.

Last year’s popular event, the first ever of its kind in Rimbey, will return Aug. 25, 26 and 27 and as the name suggests the weekend promises to be a rock ‘n good time, jam packed full of events that will keep the town buzzing for the entire weekend.

Co-chair Terry Von Hollen is excited about the event.

“We promised Rock ‘n Rimbey would be bigger and better this year and that’s exactly what it will be – bigger and better.

Rock ‘n Rimbey is a Lions Club initiative, but this year several other organizations will join in such as the Slow Pitch Organization, the Alberta Horseshoes Pitchers Association, the boccie ball group, Central Alberta Raceways and the Kinsemen Club.

The event will kick off on Friday and businesses are encouraged to dress up in the 50/60s theme. Judging will take place in the afternoon.

At around 4 p.m. downtown Rimbey will take on a festive air as Rock ‘n Rimbey’s street festival gets underway.

At 7 p.m. participants are invited to participate in a car cruise, which will leave Rimbey and travel to Bentley, Sylvan Lake and Eckville before heading back to Rimbey.

With the night still young, everyone is invited to head on down to the Rimbey Co-op Mall parking lot where there will be beer gardens and live music.

Saturday will begin bright and early with a pancake breakfast, followed by the car show. Last year 86 participants showed up for the car show, and Von Hollen is hoping for even more participants this year.

A car rally, entirely on paved roads, will follow the car show.

Von Hollen said the car rally was a popular event last year, attracting 25 drivers.

“In our feedback forms the rally was listed as one of the highpoints for participants. It went over really well.”

The day will wrap up with a dinner and dance held at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

Central Alberta Raceways will hold street car drag racing on Sunday.

Overall, Rock ‘n Rimbey promises to be a fun and exciting weekend with events and activities for every member of the family.

Mark the date on your calendar and look forward to more information in upcoming Rimbey Review editions as we keep readers posted.
