Man and a youth arrested after vehicle theft, police assaulted

A man and a youth have been arrested after a vehicle was stolen from a County of Wetaskiwin residence May 17.

According to a press release from Wetaskiwin RCMP spokesperson Cst. Shaun Marchand, “In the early evening of May 17th, 2019 the Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a break and enter at a rural residence just north of the City of Wetaskiwin.

“A vehicle and various items were stolen from the residence. The Wetaskiwin RCMP and the Wetaskiwin Crime Reduction Unit located the stolen vehicle a short time later parked at the Husky in Wetaskiwin.

“One male youth occupant was arrested without incident. The second suspect, a male adult was located nearby by police. The male resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer in the process of being taken into custody. The police officer was not injured.

“As a result, the following charges have been laid:

Clyde Rabbit (23) of Maskwacis, Alberta has been charged with the following:

· Break and enter to commit theft

· Breach of release conditions (X2)

· Theft of motor vehicle

· Theft Under $5,000

· Resisting arrest

· Assaulting a police officer

“A 16-year-old youth from Maskwacis, Alberta has been charged with the following:

· Break and enter to commit theft

· Theft of a motor vehicle

· Theft Under $5,000

“All accused were brought before a Justice of the Peace. Clyde Rabbit was remanded and is scheduled to appear in court May 21, 2019. The 16-year-old youth was released on a $1 no cash recognizance to appear in court on May 22, 2019.
