Rimbey RCMP were extremely busy this week executing search warrants at several residences in the community where illicit drugs, illegal guns, prohibited weapons and stolen property was seized in addition to our usual calls for service.

Multiple arrests

Over the last few days, Rimbey Mounties have made multiple arrests in relation to a large-scale investigation which involved a number of men in Rimbey and the area who were involved in a web of crime. Under the authority of search warrants granted by the courts, officers searched several properties in Ponoka County near Rimbey, Bluffton and Hoadley. So far, five adult men from Rimbey and surrounding area have been arrested and charged in relation to the investigation.

Stolen items recovered

Cocaine, illegal firearms, prohibited weapons, drug paraphernalia, and stolen property valued at over $40,000 has been recovered. Stolen items recovered include: horse tack, saddle, HD large televisions, Xbox and PS3 consoles and games, hockey equipment, a large leather sectional couch, oil field equipment, tools and countless other items. Many items have been identified as being from the house break and enter reported last week, where a large number of hockey jerseys were reported stolen. Some of the stolen authentic signed and framed NHL jerseys have been recovered by the Edmonton Police Service who assisted Rimbey Detachment in seizing the items in their jurisdiction.

Senseless crime

Rimbey police are also investigating a case where a teenager went to a bush party and parked her car away from all the action ... or so she thought! Unknown culprit(s) completely trashed the 2011 KIA car by denting it and smashing the glass. If you have information to assist police in identifying the vandals in this senseless crime, please call the detachment.

Gun stolen

A local county resident reported that his gun safe at home had been stolen. Police have been diligently following up on all leads and made a seizure from a residence near Hoadley in relation to the case. The stolen firearm was located but had been modified from it's original state. Regardless, it was still dangerous to the public and officers are thankful to have it off the streets and in a safe place. The 27-year-old male who was caught with the gun is facing numerous charges which include possession of cocaine, illegal firearms, possession of stolen property and other serious charges.

Disgusting act

A local county resident called police when they found their house had been broken into. Further investigation by police revealed that an unknown culprit entered their rural home but didn't take anything. The would-be thief then left the house and checked out the victim's camper, where again nothing was taken. Unbelievably, the bad guy then climbed into the owner's boat where again he did not take anything... but he did leave something! If you could believe it... he defecated in the boat. There was a bathroom in the house and the camper ... and he had to do his business in the boat! Really ... I don't make this stuff up.

Devastated by theft

A local water sport enthusiast fell victim to a thief who stole the wake board handle holder off their Sea Doo parked in front of their house. Police offered Victim Services in this case because the owner was completely devastated to not be able to hit the lake for some fun after the long winter we just endured!
