Rimbey residents will have a four-bag limit and an opportunity to use a blue bag program as of April 1.

Council awarded a new residential garbage contract to Cast-A-Waste Inc.

Jay Hohn, who owns Cast-A-Waste Inc. with his wife Darla and Kelly and Theresa Giesbrecht, said the first garbage collection has been scheduled to begin April 7 so the transition will be seamless as that is the same day the garbage is picked up now.

The blue bag program is to start April 12 and will be picked up every other Tuesday.

Hohn said residents need to use clear plastic bags for their recyclables.

“We are looking forward to working with the town and the residents.”

Council also received also received bids from Nirkirk Bros. and Evergreen Ecological Services from Sherwood Park for the residential waste contract.

“The bid prices were very close,” said Mayor Sheldon Ibbotson.

“However, Cast-a-Waste is a local contractor and offered the blue bag program as well. They also employ people from the community and came very highly recommended., I’m really happy to see a blue bag program started in Rimbey.”

As of April 1, the town will begin operating the recycling depot.
