No side wins library vote

It will be status quo for Rimbey library and town offices following the results of June 3 plebiscite.

It will be status quo for Rimbey library and town offices following the results of June 3 plebiscite.

Unofficial results show 361 voters do not want the library to expand into the existing municipal building, nor do they want the town office to relocate the Provincial Building. Trailing the No vote, 264 voters cast a ballot in favor of the move and the expansion.

There was a low voter turnout, (35 per cent) compared to the 2010 municipal election when 65 per cent of the 1,800 eligible voters cast a ballot.

Although it was a non-binding plebiscite, Mayor Sheldon Ibbotson will accept the decision made by the people.

“I will not argue with the results of the vote,” he said. “The town office is not moving to the Provincial Building and the library will stay where it is.”
