Clothes soaked with oil and gas is the suspected source of a fire that left a camper trailer with considerable smoke and fire damage.

Rimbey Fire Chief John Weisgerber said the fire department responded to a call at about 7 p.m. to The Nesting Place, a campground southwest of Rimbey.

“It was still in the early stages and there was a lot of smoke, but it burst into flame when we got there,’ he said.

The trailer was empty at the time of the fire and Weisgerber said he was told the occupant worked in the oilpatch.

The fire department contained the fire quickly, but smoke and fire damage was fairly extensive.

“It was damaged, but not destroyed. There was a lot of smoke and fire damage,” said Weisgerber.

Rimbey RCMP Const. Luke Halvorson said the fire wasn’t suspicious. He reminds everyone to keep oil and gas soaked clothes in a safe location.

“It was believed to be caused with oil soaked coveralls met with an ignition source,” he said.
