From March 24-31, six students along with teacher David Robertson and principal Alva Holliday from West Country Outreach School travelled to Orlando, Florida for a week of fun, learning, and team building.

While in Orlando, the group experienced all of the excitement offered by such an incredible city.

At Animal Kingdom they took part in a safari ride, seeing exotic animals from around the world. EPCOT Center was a highlight for everyone, as they immersed themselves in the cultures of 11 different countries, including Canada.

The group went behind the scenes of many major movies and television shows at Hollywood Studios and Universal Studios. They experienced space at the Kennedy Space Center, learning about the history and technology of NASA - including a shuttle launch simulator that had their teeth chattering.

One of their big goals prior to leaving was to see alligators in the wild, and during an hour-long airboat ride on the St. Johns River, they saw dozens of them. Magic Kingdom was a day immersed in all of the beauty, pomp and circumstance that only a Disney park can provide.

Finally, the group spent a day laughing and screaming together as we visited Islands of Adventure theme park.

All six students grew as people over the week away, learning about their capabilities and what is required to be a citizen of the world, said David Robertson.

“They were model Canadians throughout, making connections with travellers who wanted to know about our country, and giving people Canadian flags and pins. The Orlando 2018 participants from West Country Outreach School were excellent ambassadors for our town, province, and country. We are very proud of them.”

Special thanks to the Wolf Creek Public School Board of Trustees and Superintendent Jayson Lovell for their ongoing support and enthusiasm for initiatives at West Country Outreach School. Without them, these amazing experiences would not be possible.
