Playground equipment on order

Town council has taken the next step to ensure the children in Rimbey have good, reliable playground equipment to play on this summer.

Town council has taken the next step to ensure the children in Rimbey have good, reliable playground equipment to play on this summer.

At its regular meeting June 11, council gave the go-ahead to the recreation director’s recommendation that the equipment be purchased from PlayQuest Recreation.

Council accepted the bid so the order could be placed as soon as possible.

“It will take four to six weeks for delivery and if we don’t get cracking on this, the summer will be gone,” said CAO Tony Goode.

Recreation director Rick Kreklewich said he has been chatting with Lions Club members about the playgrounds and the club will help out with some of the labor, although no definite arrangements have been made.

Kreklewich said eight requests for proposals were received and the list was short-listed to three companies.

The cost of the equipment, including full installation, were $96,990 from B & G Recreation Services Inc., $106,689 for PlayQuest and $140,955 for Habitat Systems Inc.

Kreklewich said the board decided to recommend PlayQuest Recreation even though the install price was slightly higher than B & G Recreation Services Inc. “PlayQuest had lots of play features we were looking for such as multiple slides and a variety of climbing apparatuses,” said Kreklewich.

The equipment is to be installed in the Lions playgrounds and the BMX Park.

The equipment in these playgrounds has been deemed unsafe and any remaining equipment will need to be removed.
