TREENA MIELKE/Rimbey Review

It could be the long weekend in May 2012 before swimmers will have a chance to make any waves at Rimbey’s new pool, but, despite the delay, progress is being made.

Recreation director Rick Kreklewich said Western Recreation Inc. is now installing the pool membrane.

“The installation of the hot tubs is to be happening soon and from what I understand the waterslide should be going in as well,’ he said. “There has also been significant progress in the mechanical room and equipment pipes and filters are almost completely installed.”

“It’s good to have the project moving forward,” he said.

However CAO Tony Goode said there are no plans to open the pool this year.

“We still have the spray park to complete and we have to get the system cranked up and winterized. Perhaps by next May long weekend, depending on the weather of course, we could open.”

At its May 25 council meeting, council agreed to renew its pool agreement with the Best Western Hotel until Dec. 31 with the option of extending the usage from January to May 31, 2012.
