Arthur Mcgregor (Greg) Rathjen is letting his name stand in the Bentley byelection on February 24 for the vacant Bentley town councilor position. His motto for his campaign is 'Bentley - A place to grow. A time for change.
He had considered running in the civic election in October, but he said after reconsidering and seeing the good field of contenders he had withdrawn his name.
He says "I want to help our community come together, plan, and enable future development. I am committed to listen and represent you on council - voters, taxpayers, businesses owners and organizations. I want to encourage growth as a friendly, developing, caring community."
One of his priorities is to see the highway realignment project completed, another is to attract businesses, and another is to see a chamber of commerce formed.
Rathjen served on council for two terms from 2003 to 2009 and was a town council liaison on committees like the local fire department, PAMZ, FCSS, ag society, community van and more.
He says he wants to help council and staff to work as a team and supports the council already elected.
Greg has been married 40 years to a wonderful wife, Janet. They have two sons and a daughter-in-law with two marvelous grandchildren.
He is in his 27th year as pastor of the Bentley Community Church, has been a chef, and has been a school bus driver for a total of 35 years - 18 years full time.
Rathjen is very positive. "I believe there is a good council in place and good things are going to happen (for Bentley). I want to help make our community as a whole the most welcoming community in central Alberta."
