Rimbey RCMP responded to 48 calls for service last week. Calls ranged from noise and other disturbance type calls to thefts and missing people.
Vehicles damaged by pellet gun
Over the past week Rimbey RCMP have been called to a few complaints of parked vehicles being shot at with a pellet gun, causing extensive damage to several vehicles. Once located, the suspect or suspects will face several criminal charges.
Beware computer scam
RCMP have again received more complaints of citizens receiving phone calls from a person claiming to be from Microsoft requesting access to computers. The suspect is quite convincing and has knowledge of registration numbers, but this is a scam to mine for data on your computer, do not give anyone remote access to your computer.
Variety of calls on long weekend
May long weekend kept Rimbey members busy, but thankfully no serious injuries or fatalities were reported. During a Check Stop conducted on the long weekend, two impaired drivers were arrested, four 24-hour driving suspensions and several liquor and motor vehicle act tickets were issued.
A 48-year-old resident of Red Deer is charged with impaired driving and blowing over the legal limit, along with obstruction (for lying about his name) and driving while suspended. A 27-yearold resident of Edmonton is charged with impaired driving and being over the legal limit after he blow almost four times the legal limit. Four suspended drivers were also arrested and had their vehicles seized.
More than 60 violation tickets were issued this long weekend, including speeding violations, no insurance, no registration and various other offences.
Several noise, fire and fireworks calls were dealt with over the long weekend, from Gull Lake to Medicine Lake campground.
Half of boaters not compliant
Rimbey RCMP also made boat patrols on Gull Lake and found approximately 50 per cent of boats checked were not in compliance with the small vessel regulations, by not having proper equipment, enough life jackets or not having their pleasure craft operating cards. Unfortunately, Rimbey RCMP cannot say how the fishing was as it was all business this weekend.
Circling the bases ends in jail
Another impaired driver was located driving his ATV around the baseball diamonds, trying desperately to impress the young ladies. The bracelets given to him by police were sure to make any women swoon. A 29-year-old resident of Red Deer is facing impaired driving related charges as well as charges under the Traffic Safety Act dealing with off-highway vehicles.
Missing person found
Two missing persons reports were investigated over the long weekend, with one gentleman returning home in midst of the investigation. An 82-year-old confused man was the subject of a multi-jurisdictional search and media release. He was located by an alert citizen after spending the night in his car, which had run out of gas in the Leslieville area.
