One person is dead following a multi vehicle collision near Ponoka.
On Nov. 25, 2021 at 6:15 a.m., Ponoka Traffic Services was dispatched to a multi vehicle collision north bound on Highway 2 at the Crandall overpass.
This collision required the north bound lanes of the QEII highway to be closed while crews cleaned up volatile goods on board of the damaged tankers. The substance, ammonium nitrate was contained and the appropriate partners are involved assisting with cleanup.
The preliminary investigation has shown that at least seven semi-tractor trailer units and one SUV were involved in the collision. As a result, one of the drivers of a semi involved, a 64 year old, male from Rimbey, Alta., was pronounced dead on scene.
Ponoka RCMP Traffic Services, along with the RCMP Collision Re-constructionist, continue to investigate this collision. The name of the deceased will not be released.
