Jackie Stratton, who passed away from Stage 4 Lung Cancer on Feb. 1 surrounded by family and friends, is being remembered as an amazing lady who dedicated a lot of her time to helping others.

Stratton was instrumental in many organizations throughout the community, which mostly included the Rimbey & District Chamber of Commerce. Her service was held Feb. 16 at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre.

Melvin Durand, president of the Chamber, met Stratton about 15 years ago. She was not only his colleague, but a good friend.

“Jackie was an amazing lady who was extremely dedicated to her family and her business and the Rimbey & District Chamber of Commerce. She was the backbone of the Chamber for 20 plus years,” said Durand.

Stratton was the president for a while, along with being a director for many years at the Chamber. She also helped out in many other ways in the community, including the Rimbey parade.

“She was instrumental in getting the parade float up and running and spearheaded that for many years,” said Durand, adding that she helped design and organize it.

Stratton also did work in 4H clubs all across the province through her company Scratchin’ the Surface, and donated countless items to non-profit fundraisers.

“She was always willing to give anybody a hand and was very dedicated to helping people with her expertise and her friendship.”
