Due to the combined efforts of members of the Rural Crime Reduction Project and Rimbey RCMP a repeat offender known in several jurisdictions for credit card fraud and other illegal activities will appear in Provincial Court in Rimbey on June 1.

The RCRP actively targeted Craig Oliver and on May 17 he was arrested outside a residence in Westerose and taken into custody at the Wetaskiwin RCMP Detachment where a judicial interim release hearing was held. He was later released on bail.

RCMP reports that while the officers were about to arrest Oliver, he was seen committing an assault against a woman.

As a result, he is facing new charges including assault; fail to comply with conditions of recognizance and a charge under the Traffic Safety Act.

Oliver was wanted on two warrants by the Rimbey RCMP.

On April 2, the local RCMP responded to a complaint of a credit card fraud at a local business. After investigating the complaint, 29-year-old Marcia Gold and 49-year-old Craig Oliver were identified as suspects.

Charges of unauthorized use of credit card data were laid and arrest warrants issued.

On May 9, Rimbey RCMP received another complaint of credit card fraud at a different business. Oliver was again identified as a suspect and five charges were sworn against him including unauthorized use of credit data. Another arrest warrant was issued.

In order to locate Oliver and stop his activities Rimbey RCMP joined forces with the Rural Crime Reduction Project who are currently working in the Wetaskiwin region.

Sergeant Kurtis Pillipow, detachment commander of Rimbey RCMP said apprehending Oliver was a priority for not only Rimbey, but various other detachments.

“Our communities are well supported by the Rural Crime Reduction Project,” he said. “We will continue to identify repeat offenders and work diligently to interrupt their illegal activities.”
