Last October the students from our four local schools participated in the Royal Canadian Legion’s annual literary and poster contest with 143 entries over the four different age ranges and four different categories.
We picked up 25 black and white posters, 41 colour posters, 74 poems and three essays all to be judged locally by Branch Members. At the end of our judging we had 29 entries placing either first , second or third with those moving onto the District level competition. The Legion has nine districts in the Alberta/NWT Command and there are 10 Commands in Canada making up the Royal Canadian Legion nationally.
At District level the Rimbey entries did very well with three students placing first in their categories and three placing second and two placing third. Our three first place winners were then to go on to the Command Level judging with one of those placing first and then going on to being judged at the National Level.
This is the second year in a row that Rimbey has had a student go to this level. Last year Sarah Nagel’s essay was judged at the National level and this year we had Brooke Jordan’s essay, which placed third in the country. A wonderful honour for a great essay of Remembrance.
The Rimbey Legion Branch No. 36 wish to thank all the students for taking part and the teachers who encourage them in this act of Remembrance. The completion will take place again this fall and we hope to see as many entries as last year or more.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
