In the last week, Rimbey RCMP responded to 41 calls for service. These files include, but are not limited to, nine stolen or abandoned vehicles, or suspicious/persons or vehicle reports; four break and enter files; three theft related complaints; and one assault file.
Following an extensive search, the Rimbey RCMP can report that William (Bill) Harris has been found deceased on October 30, 2018. The RCMP will be continuing the investigation into his death. At this time there is no determination about any criminality. The media is asked to remove any and all ‘missing’ posts and are thanked for their assistance in this matter.
On October 24th, Rimbey RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated male getting into a vehicle after visiting a local liquor store. Officers responded immediately and found a male passed out in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The 40-year-old male was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle. Subsequent investigation found the male to have a blood alcohol concentration nearly four times the legal limit. The Rimbey male was charged for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle over 80mg per cent and was released on a promise to appear in Rimbey court on January 4, 2019.
As the holiday party season approaches, it is important to remember to plan ahead if you will be consuming intoxicants. Operating a motor vehicle, or being in a motor vehicle with the ability to operate it while impaired by drugs and/or alcohol is a criminal offence and carries stiff penalties that may include criminal charges and additional administrative sanctions such as license suspension and vehicle seizure. The RCMP encourages the public to report suspected impaired driving as soon as they safely can with a description of the vehicle, the driver, the location, and the direction of travel.
The yearly statistics for the Rimbey RCMP have recently been compiled and reveal some interesting information regarding activity in the Rimbey area. From January to September of 2018, the number of files opened by the Rimbey RCMP have seen a 16.6 per cent decrease since the same time period in 2017. The top five file types opened in 2018 in terms of workload for officers are as follows: theft under $5000, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, mental health related files, possession of stolen property, and property damage to motor vehicles. The top type in terms of numbers of files opened in 2018 is suspicious person or vehicle reports, with 141 files opened since January of this year. For general interest, Tuesday is the busiest day of the week for opening files, while Saturday is the busiest day of the week for calls for service from officers in Rimbey.
On a more exciting note, Rimbey Victim Services would like to announce the 1st Annual Charity Checkstop. The event, conducted in partnership with the Rimbey RCMP, the Ponoka County West District Fire Department, and the Rimbey Citizens on Patrol, is scheduled for November 28th on 50th Avenue near the 49th Street intersection and asks for contributions from the community of new, unwrapped toys and/or non-perishable food items. Cash donations are always welcome as well. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Rimbey Food Bank.
