A young Rimbey musician is taking giant steps forward, not only in his chosen career of music, but in the field of modeling.

Jared Matthews’ audition as a lead male vocal for a professional band in Edmonton called The Geris Project was successful and he was selected for the part.

Accompanied by himself on the guitar, Matthews sang the popular hit songs, Drunk by Ed Scheeran and Superstition by Stevie Wonder for the audition.

“I was very nervous,” he said. “But they told me right away, I got the part. I was very surprised and very excited.”

His break into the music world seemed to happen almost simultaneously with an opportunity for some modeling shoots.

The modeling opportunity came about through a friend of a friend, said Matthews.

He said his modeling pictures would be promoted online. Modeling is a new and exciting venture for Matthews, but he is enjoying the challenge.

“I’m excited and nervous about the modeling shots,” he said. “It is cool to see yourself in a different light.”

As much as Jared enjoys modeling, his heart lies with music and he is looking forward to a career in that field.

“I’m just waiting to see where the future takes me,” he said.

Matthews is no stranger to the music industry having performed on stage throughout central Alberta. He also spent some time in Australia.
