Rimbey Police Report

In the past week Rimbey RCMP received 52 calls for service.

Members were kept running dealing with Mental Health Act offences, a large theft of oil field equipment, traffic complaints and a plethora of absolute disgraceful thefts and vandalism in town.

Sometime over the last week, culprits cut a fence to an oilfield storage yard on Simpson Road near Rimbey. Once inside the compound, the thieves stole electrical extension cords used in the oil and gas industry. The magnitude of the theft was significant and the loss is believed to be more than $15,000.

The investigation continues and police are using all resources to solve this crime. Police are seeking the public's assistance in this matter. No matter how insignificant your tip may seem, it may be just the piece of the puzzle needed for police to solve this crime.

The full moon brought upon more apprehensions under the Mental Health Act this week. In addition, some citizens are being driven crazy by the obscenely loud mufflers roaring about the streets and County roads. Police have issued countless notices in this report warning that tickets will be laid for offensive mufflers but these notices have been ignored. Tickets are being issued that carry a minimum $115 fine.

Grinches have tried to steal some Christmas spirit around town by vandalizing Christmas decorations and stealing lights. A plastic Santa and snowman were recovered dumped in the river just west of town. Also, a very valuable five-foot tall, motorized Santa in a red velvet suit was stolen from a yard where Christmas thefts have occurred three years in a row.

The citizens of Rimbey take great pride in their community and their yards. This is what draws fine people from all over to live here. This kind of behavior is not acceptable nor will it be tolerated. Police are actively seeking suspects for these crimes.
