June 18, 2020 just before 10 p.m. the Rimbey RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision with a pedestrian on Bridgeview Roads and Canal Street in the area of Meridian Beach.

A 54-year-old male was located scene at the scene and sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was air lifted by STARS to a Calgary hospital.

The investigation indicated that the 18-year-old male driver was driving carelessly and a pedestrian attempted to stop the vehicle by reaching inside the passenger side window to stop the driver from driving away.

The pedestrian held on as the vehicle drove off dragging him along before falling out of the window. The pedestrian then rolled on the road as the vehicle was in motion.

The driver was subsequently arrested and released on an Appearance Notice and will be charged with Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Collision Causing Bodily Harm in addition to charges for driving without a license.

The RCMP Collision Restructionist Section was called in as well as the Forensics Identification Section to assist with the investigation.

The investigation into this collision remains ongoing.
