Ponoka County, Alta. – On June 18 at 9:55 p.m., the Rimbey RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision with a pedestrian on Bridgeview Road and Canal Street in the area of Meridian Beach. A 54-year-old male was located at the scene and sustained serious, non life threatening injuries. The victim was air lifted by STARS to a Calgary hospital.

Investigation indicates that the 18-year-old male driver was driving in a careless manner and a pedestrian attempted to stop the vehicle by reaching inside it (through the passenger’s side window in an attempt to stop the driver from driving off). The pedestrian held on as the vehicle drove off dragging him along, then fell out of the vehicle and rolled on the road as the vehicle was in motion.

The driver was subsequently arrested and released on an Appearance Notice and will be charged with Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Collision / Causing Bodily Harm, as well as driving without a license.

The RCMP Collision Reconstructionist Section was called in, as well as the Forensics Identification Section to assist with the investigation.

The investigation into this collision remains ongoing, however no further updates from the RCMP will be provided.
