Rimbey RCMP involved in expanded search for truck

The Rimbey RCMP dealt with 40 calls for service. Most of the occurrences involved collisions or people driving in a manner that would likely cause one. In total, detachment staff investigated 14 motor vehicle crashes and 15 people were charged with driving offences.

Stolen vehicle searched expands

Rimbey members became entwined in an elaborate auto theft scam that involved many detachments. Rimbey members, acting on information gathered during an investigation into a stolen truck from the Rimbey area, led police to an area east of Edmonton where members seized a stolen vehicle other than the one they were seeking. The investigation is continuing and now involves several detachments. Charges are pending.

Domestic violence investigated

Officers responded to many other criminal matters that included harassment, uttering threats and assault complaints. Child services were involved with police in two cases of potential domestic violence.

Police apprehended another person under the authority of the Mental Health Act in which the individual was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Have you been bad or good?

If you are currently wanted by police on an arrest warrant for that unpaid no insurance ticket or other in fraction, it would be best to march down to the detachment and turn yourself in well before Santa’s sleigh hits the skies. More than one person has spent the entire Christmas holidays in the remand centre because they got arrested on Christmas Eve.

Check Stops planned

Police will continue to conduct Check Stops in the coming weeks. These are strategically ongoing as police in Rimbey try to curb the issue of impaired driving in the community. Please do your part. Plan ahead if you plan to attend a party or gathering where alcohol will be present. Line up a ride home ahead of time with a friend or a cab company. The $2,000 fine and loss of a driver’s license for a year is the least of your potential penalty when we arrest you drunk behind the wheel. What if you harmed a neighbor, your best friend or the family down the street? Think about it. Don’t drink and drive.

From all of us at the Rimbey RCMP, please have a safe and happy Christmas and a joyous new year.
