Rimbey RCMP is looking for volunteers who wish to be part of a community consultative group.

At its Tuesday meeting, council received a letter from the Rimbey RCMP stating they want to consult with stakeholders within the detachment area to identify and address the needs of the area by forming a community consultative group.

The intention of the group is to get a wide range of input so that the police can better understand the needs of the community.

The group is to consist of volunteers from a cross-section of the community including youth, seniors, business owners, local agencies, schools and members-at-large.

The Rimbey RCMP are seeking volunteers who are interested in becoming a part of the community consultative group to provide a voice to share concerns and ideas on how to work together to better our community, the letter states.

The group would be consulted approximately two times a year or when issues arise to discuss priorities and progress.

The community consultative group would serve as a liaison between the stakeholders and the police, promoting the ideals of community policing through communication and cooperation.

The group would enlighten the RCMP about public concerns thereby providing the police with a better sense of what’s going on in the community. The group would also support and promote the development of crime prevention programs.

Members would be expected to keep organizations they represent informed about the group’s activities and goals as appropriate.

Anyone who wants to be part of the community consultative group may contact Const. Luke Giles at 403-843-2224.

The constable was not available for comment on the program.
