In the last week Rimbey RCMP responded to 43 calls for service. These calls include but are not limited to: three complaints of suspicious vehicles; six break and enter reports; nine vehicle thefts; and four reports of theft from motor vehicles.

On the 13th of March, Rimbey RCMP received a report of a vehicle stolen from a local residence. The vehicle was running with the keys inside at the time of the theft. The registered owner informed a Rimbey officer that the vehicle could be tracked via GPS. After tracking the vehicle to a convenience store in Red Deer, the vehicle’s ignition was disabled. The suspect quickly learned that any plans he had to drive the vehicle any further were foiled. The suspect was soon met with bigger problems than a car that would not start – Red Deer RCMP were waiting for him outside the convenience store. For his valiant efforts, the suspect was awarded a trip to the Red Deer RCMP Detachment and as a bonus, was charged with possession of stolen property and will get to attend court at a later date.

RCMP are asking for assistance in identifying some individuals that were involved in some reports of vandalism in town in the past week. Reports are consistent in that the letters “SM” have been spray painted with black paint on vehicle windows, the sides of businesses, and street signs around Rimbey. Thankfully some of the businesses that were vandalized are able to provide some surveillance to aid in the investigation, so hopefully this issue can be quickly resolved.
