Rimbey RCMP reminds motorists to stop for school buses

Staff reporter

Now that school is back in session, the Rimbey RCMP is reminding motorists to use caution in school zones and to stop for school buses when signalled to do so.

“The law requires all motorists to stop when a school bus has activated their alternating red lights from both directions unless the highway is divided,” said Sgt. Mark Groves. “Drivers are not to proceed until the school bus resumes motion or the alternating red lights have stopped flashing.”

Groves also said extra caution should also be taken when travelling on rural gravel roads where visibility can be reduced due to dust, fog and other impediments.

The posted speed limits in Rimbey are 30 km/hr and are in effect every school day from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Additionally, playground speed limit zones are also 30 km/hr and are in effect from one hour prior to sunrise until one hour past sunset.
