Rimbey RCMP respond to threat

Rimbey RCMP responded to 32 calls for service last week.

Highlights of the week include motor vehicle collisions, stolen property investigations, uttering threats, domestic violence situations and other criminal matters.

Police respond to threat of violence

On Feb. 25 at approximately 1:45 p.m., RCMP in Rimbey were made aware of a 30-year-old male from Red Deer who had allegedly made a threat to kill an adult female known to him and was on his way to Rimbey to carry out his threat. Officers from Rimbey and other neighboring detachments quickly responded to many residences in the central Alberta area in an effort to immediately arrest the man. Police also had an area in Rimbey cordoned off temporarily. In short time, RCMP in Red Deer located and arrested the accused in an apartment in the city without incident.

The investigation into this matter is continuing at this time. To date, a charge of uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code have been laid in this case.

Business sign stolen

Police have been on the lookout for suspects involved in a theft of a sign from a business on Main Street. The investigation uncovered a security camera in the area offered some insight into the type of vehicle used during the offence. Police have subsequently identified the four youths (two boys and two girls) who took the sign and have dealt with them in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. All were 17 years of age and residents of Rimbey.

Car theft was a misunderstanding

Police received a report of a stolen Toyota Camry allegedly stolen last week from the elementary school. Afterwards, it was found out to be a misunderstanding and no one had actually stolen it — it had been borrowed by someone who thought they had been left the car to use.

Be cautious this spring

Spring is coming — hopefully. Please be extra cautious while working or playing around any water source that is covered by ice.

4-Hers impress RCMP judge

Recently, a Mountie was honored to be a judge in the recent Rimbey 4-H public speaking event that took place at the Catholic Church. It was truly amazing to see so many young people sharing their personal experiences on the stage in front of so many people. It was obvious that these youths were well on their way to very successful lives. Congratulations to all who participated.
