Bylaw change

At its Tuesday meeting council agreed to meet on May 8 to review it’s land use bylaw and make any changes in order to comply with the modernized municipal government act and to address items of concern raised by administration.

The modernized municipal government act specifically requires that inclusionary housing, processing of development permits and subdivision applications and cannabis regulations be included in the municipal land use bylaws. In addition, council may review setbacks for moveable sheds, review of permitted and discretionary uses in commercial and industrial districts, housing types in the R2 districts and building renovations not requiring development permits.

Sidewalk replacement

Council has directed administration to look into the cost of using ashphalt istead of cement to remove and replace an old sidewalk locatedon the west side of 52nd Street south of 50 Avenue.

This sidewalk was installed by the property owner and not the town.

Tagish Engineering quoted a cost of $17,490 to replace one half a block of sidewalk with cement.

Council agreed the sidewalk should be replaced as it is well used.

“The crosswalk is one of the most used in town,’ said Mayor Rick Pankiw.

A final decision as to the sidewalk replacement was deferred to budget deliberations.

Public works concern

Administration will confer with the director of public works Rick Schmidt to determine if there is a solution to the grater picking up small pieces of curb.

“It’s not a big thing, but it could become a big thing,” said Coun. Rondeel.

Chamber partnership

Council agreed to meet with Rimbey Chamber of Commerce to talk about the possibility of partnering with them to sponsor the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

Mayor Rick Pankiw pointed out that without such a partnership it would be costly.

Christian School

Council agreed to donate a signed hockey print to Rimbey Christian School to be used as an auction item for their annual spring auction.
