Road construction slowed by rain

Periods of wet, rainy weather have significantly slowed down road construction in Rimbey.

Periods of wet, rainy weather have significantly slowed down road construction in Rimbey.

In the last few weeks, few days have gone by that have not been interrupted with rain showers, turning streets and roads into mudholes.

Assistant CAO Ryan Maier said Central City Asphalt, hired by the town for the construction, began work a few weeks ago, but has been forced to wait for the roads to dry up.

However, work has been completed on 51st Avenue between 47 and 48 streets and paving has been completed on 54th Avenue in front of the Christian School.

The corner of 50th Street and 50th Avenue in front of the Vault and across from the Rimbey Review is badly in need of repair, said Maier, noting it is included in the project and work will begin on that area as soon as the weather co-operates.

The $1,090,546 construction project was approved by council in May and another $45,000 has been added to the budget so the Post Office corner and the Beatty House corner can be completed.
