TREENA MIELKE/Rimbey Review

Swimmers are making waves at the Best Western Hotel pool, but users will need to sign a waiver for a couple of weeks at least, as the pool’s lifeguard is unable to work due to a broken leg.

Hotel owner Stan Cummings said another lifeguard is coming on board by the end of the month.

“People are still welcome, they just have to sign a waiver,” he said.

The pool has been busy, especially with aquasize groups.

Meanwhile, Rimbey CAO Tony Goode said work on the town’s pool is progressing slowly.

He said one of the subtrades who was experiencing financial difficulty has resolved the problem.

“The company says the outstanding equipment we’ve been waiting for should arrive this week,” he said.

This equipment is to include the fleece underlay, PVC membrane, hot tubs, diving stands, pool ladders, pool lights and diving boards.

“I’m pleased with the turnaround, but I don’t believe this will change the fact the pool won’t open for the remainder of the summer,” he said.

Last month council agreed to renew its pool agreement with the Best Western Hotel until Dec. 31 with the option of extending the usage from January to May 31, 2012.

The new pool was originally scheduled to be open in June.
