Police say “very poor road conditions” contributed to one person’s death in a head-on collision west of Leduc Mar. 22.

According to RCMP media relatiosn spokesperson Cpl. Laurel Scott, “At 8:44 a.m. this morning, Leduc RCMP were dispatched to a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 19 near Range Road 260. It was determined on scene that one person was deceased.

“The collision involved two pick up trucks. One truck had three male occupants, one passenger in this truck succumbed to his injuries. The other two occupants were transported via ambulance to a hospital with undetermined injuries.

“One truck had two male occupants who were treated locally for unknown injuries.

“The RCMP Collision Analyst attended the scene in order to conduct an investigation into the cause of this collision. At the time of the collision, road conditions were very poor.

“Traffic is moving slowly in both directions on one lane of travel. Tow trucks are on scene, and it is anticipated that the area will be open within the next hour.

“Further updates will only be provided if new information becomes available.

ORIGINAL STORY

The Leduc RCMP are warning motorists that a serious accident has occurred near Devon Fri., Mar. 23 and a major intersection is impassable.

According to RCMP media relations spokesperson Cpl. Laurel Scott, emergency services were on the scene of the collision, amidst snowy, slushy, wet road conditions.

“The RCMP, with emergency services, are on scene at a serious collision on Highway 19 near Range Road 260, approximately two km east of Devon,”

“Details on the collision are unavailable for release at this time, however the highway is currently impassable. Traffic is being re-routed in both directions on local roads. “

Cpl. Scott said RCMP would provide an update as soon as possible.
