This summer, severe lightning storms with heavy wind and rain have passed through central Alberta, knocking out power to homes and businesses in Rimbey, Sylvan Lake, Eckville, Bentley and Gull Lake.
FortisAlberta brought in extra resources from crews but restoration efforts were hampered by continued lightning and flash flooding, making roadways challenging to pass. As well, there are many downed power lines resulting from trees being blown over.
