“With over 20 years’ experience as a mentor, educator, and coach in Wolf Creek Schools I believe that I possess the tools necessary to support Zone 4 as School Board Trustee,” says Peter Sutherland from the Blackfalds area.

Sutherland is a retired teacher and a small business owner with 15 years construction, oilfield and trades experience.

He believes all students have the right to an education and a responsibility to pursue it in a positive, creative, healthy and supportive learning environment.

Sutherland says,” Over the past few years I have spent time talking with friends and neighbors about education and the one thing that became apparent was that the “best teachers” we could recall were the ones with a passion for young people and for education. It did not and does not matter what the subject is as much as the energy that those teachers put into their curriculum. If we looked at what we considered success, in any field of endeavor, success is achieved by studying and perfecting the basics first. It did not matter if it was piano, art, woodworking, or mathematics. All the examples of success started with a sound understanding of the basics.”

Sutherland goes on to say that he will communicate, inform and involve everyone, help set goals and priorities that reflect the community’s wishes, lobby local and provincial government, and make a commitment to be involved and available.

“I am a proud supporter of our local communities. A good system of education has to be nurtured and supported by people with a passion for education that can stand up for what they believe in. I have that passion. As a parent, foster parent, friend and educator I am passionate about education for our youth as they are our future.”
