Targeted measures in place for Ponoka County, Maskwacis, Wetaskiwin

Ponoka County (including the Town of Ponoka and Rimbey), Maskwacis, the City of Wetaskiwin and Wetaskiwin County are now on the enhanced provincial watch list.

Premier Jason Kenney announced on Nov. 12, that as of Friday, Nov. 13, short-term restrictions and measures would be in place for all regions under enhanced status.

The province’s threshold for enhanced status are more than 50 active cases per 100,000 people.

When using the local geographic setting on the alberta.ca geospatial map, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, it was showing 69 active cases for Wetaskiwin County (Maskwacis), 28 cases for Ponoka (East County Ponoka), and two cases for Rimbey (West Ponoka County and Partial Lacombe County).

Using the municipality setting, the County of Wetaskwin had 10 active cases and Ponoka County had 63 active cases.

The map was last updated at the end of the day on Nov. 11.

On the website’s region classification map, Ponoka County and Wetaskiwin County are purple, which means they are on the enhanced watch list and have additional measures in place.

Targeted measures in place by the Government of Alberta that affect the Town of Ponoka, Ponoka County, Rimbey, Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin include:

Mandatory measures

  • Restaurants, bars, lounges and pubs must stop liquor sales by 10pm and close by 11pm - applies to Class A, B or C licences (Nov 13-27).
  • 15-person limit on social and family gatherings - indoors and outdoors - where people are mixing and mingling.
  • 50-person limit on indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies and funeral services

Voluntary measures

  • No social gatherings inside your home or outside of your community. Instead, socialize outdoors or in structured settings, like restaurants or other business that are subject to legal limits and take steps to prevent transmission.
  • Limit of 3 cohorts: your core household, your school, and one other sport or social cohort. Young children who attend child care can be part of 4 cohorts.
  • Wear a mask in all indoor work settings, except when alone in a workspace or an appropriate barrier is in place.
  • Employers in office settings should implement measures to reduce the number of employees in the workplace at one time.
  • Faith-based gatherings limited to 1/3 capacity at one time.
