The Blindman Valley Lions club recently celebrated its first year as a club.

“Looking back it was actually quite busy considering we were in the midst of a lockdown pandemic,” noted a release.

The members managed to find a number of projects that could be safely done and follow AHS safety protocols.

It started off at Open Creek campground repairing potholes in the road, followed with painting the ball diamonds at Lockhart Community Center, collecting can tabs for diabetes research funding, cleaning up and re-enforcing the ‘Welcome to the Famous Blindman Valley’ sign, as well as repairing and re-hanging the Centennial project sign in Bluffton.

The Club also helped out at the drive-in Halloween Bingo in Bentley. Members also decorated the bridge for Christmas at Paskapoo park, helped with the curbside visit with Santa also in Bentley, assisted Mrs. Claus with letters to children, and sent Christmas packages, Valentines goodies and Easter Cards to our community members in the hospital and seniors care centers.

They also repaired the Lions sign at the Bentley senior care center, picked up the trash in the ditches south of Rimbey, planted trees in Bentley, Rimbey and Hoadley, acquired flags and painted at the Bluffton Community Center and highway entrance sign, organized a food bank collection, painted rocks for the kindness snake at the Blindman Youth Center and lately they once again painted at the Lockhart Community Center as well.

“This year we were able to paint the fence, the bleachers and the benches. It was probably one of our biggest projects work-wise to date. We are all very happy with the results. The ball teams that use that facility do such a wonderful job looking after the grounds and we were happy to pitch in and do our part for this great, treasured community center.

“We are excited for our future and we are looking forward to helping the communities of the Blindman Valley wherever we find a need.”
