Thorsby RCMP recover 2 stolen vehicles, make arrests

Thorsby RCMP recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested two suspects in Leduc County after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle on July 19.

Thorsby RCMP recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested two suspects in Leduc County after responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle on July 19.

Investigation revealed the reported vehicle was in fact stolen, and Thorsby RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services, Parkland and Strathcona County RCMP plainclothes units and EPS Air 1 were dispatched to the scene.

When the vehicle was followed to a property, second vehicle, also stolen, departed with two occupants.

The driver fled the scene when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, and it was later found in a ditch. The driver and passenger tried to run and were arrested.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP have charged Morgan Bud Hansen, 29, a resident of Brazeau County, Alta., with:

- Dangerous driving;

- Flight from police;

- Resisting arrest;

- Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5,000;

- Mischief over $5,000; and

- Possession of break and enter tools.

Hansen was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. He is to be brought before the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on July 27.

RCMP have also charged Robert James Letiec, 33, a resident of Leduc County, Alta., with:

- Dangerous driving;

- Flight from police;

- Resisting arrest;

- Possession of property obtained by crime, over $5,000;

- Mischief over $5,000; and

- Possession of break and enter tools.

Letiec was brought before a Justice of the Peace, who released him. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc on Aug. 10.
