Town to shore up lagoon erosion

On June 12 Bentley town council accepted a tender to repair and upgrade parts of the town lagoon

On June 12 Bentley town council accepted a tender to repair and upgrade parts of the town lagoon and it was agreed to proceed as soon as possible with the project.

Over the last few years, erosion of the berm has become a problem, especially along the northwest corners. The tender was for just over $336,600. Funding will come from the Federal Gas Tax Rebate Program and reserve funds, with the shortfall of close to $60,000 being covered with a short-term loan that can be covered by next year’s grant.

New fire chief

Todd Gustafson was appointed the new Bentley District Fire Chief effective July 1 by recommendation of Fred Millar whose appointment had been for one year.

A committee is being established to plan for Bentley’s centennial in 2015. Two council members and five people from the community at large will help plan and co-ordinate events and activities. Volunteers will be needed.

Trees marked with orange paint are scheduled to be removed. Many of them are in the Main Street boulevard.

Two streetlights are going to be installed along 53 Street directly north behind the arena going toward the Blindman Valley Ag Centre. It was agreed it was a dark area.

Only one town council meeting for each summer month is scheduled — July 17 and Aug. 21. Normally meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

If you have any concerns, questions or comments call the town office at 403-748-4044 during their regular business hours.
