Josh Carothers, who works at VJV Auction in Ponoka, has returned from auctioneering school, a goal he’s had for years.
“It was good. It was in Bozeman, Montana. It’s been something I’ve been talking about doing for like 20 years,” he said in a recent chat.
It’s the same school a few of the local auctioneers in Central Alberta have attended over the years, like Dan Skeels and Dean Edge.
The in class portion took place the first week of October, while the online training portion was 50 hours, which was before and after Carothers got to Montana.
Carothers works as a yard worker for VJV, doing most of their branding and processing. He also announces rodeos throughout Central Alberta, so auctioneering is something that just fits together he said.
“In the auction industry, between the cattle industry and growing up in it, it’s always just been something I’ve wanted to do.”
