The World Day of Prayer service, an international, inter-church event that began 98 years ago, will be held at the Rimbey Anglican Church at 2 p.m. on Fri., March 6 with lunch to follow.

The theme for this year’s World Day of Prayer is Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk.

The service for 2020 is being prepared by a writing team from Zimbabwe, one of the more southern countries in Africa and during the services, people are encouraged to reflect on the challenges this republic has encountered during the steps towards independence they have taken over the last 60 years.

The writing team has shared the injustice obstacles that the women of Zimbabwe have met as well as the hopes they have for the future, experiences which unite all people in prayer and solidarity.

The weekend of prayer begins in Samoa and prayers in native languages will travel throughout the world to the countries of Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Australia and the Americas.

The World Day of Prayer promotes justice, peace and reconciliation for all and the invitation to take part is extended to men, women and children of all ages to take part.
