LANGMUIR

Mr. A. J. “Sandy” Langmuir of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Monday, April 21, 2008 at the age of 89 years.

Sandy was born on June 11, 1918 on the family homestead near Rimbey. He was the third eldest of nine children born to Allan and Daisy Langmuir. In 1943, Sandy enlisted in the army where he met Esther Roe, and on June 23, 1945 Sandy and Esther were united in marriage in Lockington, England. They lived on the farm north of Rimbey for 62 years. Sandy hauled rural mail through the mud and snow for 27 years, and he thoroughly enjoyed it when his patrons would invite him in for coffee. Sandy loved camping in the mountains, bird watching, and especially teasing his grandchildren.

Sandy will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Carol Carruthers of Rimbey; Sylvia Andersen of Red Deer; and Donna (Scott) Jackson of Clive; as well as eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by two brothers, Walter (Margaret) Langmuir of Creston, B.C.; and Ed (Mona) Langmuir of Bentley; one sister, Lillian Hawkings of Rimbey; one brother-in-law, Gerry Reilly of Fort Saskatchewan; and one sister-in-law, Anita Langmuir of Calgary; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Sandy was predeceased by his wife, Esther in 2007; four brothers and one sister.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Sandy’s Life was held at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Placement into the Columbarium of both Sandy’s and his wife, Esther’s cremated remains took place at 11:00 a.m. in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. Cremation took place in Red Deer, Alberta.
