GOODALL

1922 - 2009

Mr. Alexander "Alex" Goodall of Rimbey, Alberta passed away suddenly at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the age of 86 years.

Alex was born on September 18, 1922 in Wilkie, Saskatchewan to Kenneth and Annie Goodall. As a very young man, he worked as a sailor on passenger boats on the Great Lakes in Ontario as they traveled into the United States. Alex then became a carpenter, building homes in various areas. He met his future wife in Calgary in a bakery where Jeannie was working, and they were later united in marriage. They purchased a farm in the Winfield area where Alex built the house they lived in for 45 years. Alex knew every inch, hollow, and rock on the family farm, and he enjoyed his honey bees of which Jeannie would bake with the honey, making marvelous bread and those yummy lemon pies that always kept Alex well-fed! When they were working in the fields, occasionally a bear would venture onto the farm to help themselves to the sweet honey. Alex also drove a school bus for over twenty years, taking a number of children to the Winfield School. He also possessed a knack for fixing sewing machines, and alongside his special friend, Art Thomas, they could be found tinkering with these machines. Alex enjoyed many things in his life such as hunting wild game that kept his family fed, and since they had gophers on the farm, he taught his grandson, Kyle how to shoot. Alex was also a well-known and familiar face at local auction sales, and he certainly attended thousands over the years! He also loved to raise Percheron black horses, which he enjoyed so much in his latter years. He was simply thrilled to watch them run through the fields. Throughout his life, Alex also possessed a love for dogs, and even later when he was in the hospital, when someone would bring one for him to pet, Alex would happily smile from ear to ear!

"He will be forever cherished and sadly missed by his family and friends."

Alex will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Donna (Ivan) Carpenter of Terrace, B.C. and their children, Kyle of Mission, B.C. and Keith of Drayton Valley; and Heather (Alvin) Kemp of Millet, Alberta and their children, Jeffrey of Leduc, and Murray and Kurt of Millet, Alberta. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Ialeen Goodall of Wilkie, Saskatchewan; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 58 years, Jeannie; his brother, John Goodall; his sisters, Clara Imrie, Janey Imrie, Mary Goodall, Myrtle McMaster, and Olive Carruthers; and his stepbrother, Lewis Wright.

A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Alex's Life was held at the Winfield Community Hall, Winfield on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Deborah Laing officiating. Interment of the Cremated Remains of both Alex and his beloved wife, Jeannie followed in the Mount Clare Cemetery, Winfield. Cremation took place at the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer.
