Annie 'Ann' Krossa of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully, with her loving daughter, Bev by her side, at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Area Two on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Ann was born at home near Mendham, Saskatchewan. In April, 1943 she moved with her family to a farm east of Rimbey, and in May she turned 14 years old. Ann, along with many of her siblings, were hired out to neighbours doing any job they could get. The days were long and the work was hard. Ann met Henry 'Hank' Krossa at the age of 17, and two years later, on October 9, 1948, they were united in marriage. Ann and Hank worked construction and painted houses. They started in Ponoka, and then worked at the barracks at CFB Griesbach in Edmonton, and the homes at CFB Penhold. In 1954 they purchased the Ray Stoner farm on Westlake Road by Gull Lake, and in 1965 they purchased the Ed Ellsworth farm as well, also on Westlake Road. They raised two children, farmed, and kept painting - this time locally. In her lifetime, Ann worked hard in the fields with her father, and then for many years alongside her husband. She also waitressed, cleaned rooms, painted, and had a huge market garden. Ann sold homemade baking, milk, cream, veggies, and eggs to bring in extra income. She also baked and made many meals for family and guests, and was well-known for her exceptional kuchen and delicious donuts! She was also known for her beautifully kept home and yard. Ann loved dancing, a good game of cards, and ice fishing. After her husband passed away, Ann became Don McFadyen's dance partner, and for five years they entertained in several long-term care facilities. In July of 2012, Ann broke her hip. Her struggles continued between 2012 and 2018, as during this time she broke both of her hips, her leg, and her back. In September, 2018, with the onset of dementia, Ann moved into Rimbey Long Term Care. Throughout her life, Ann always had a strong work ethic. She believed that if you were going to do something - do it to the best of your ability. She was kind, helpful, always welcoming, and possessed a wonderfully wicked sense of humour. She loved her family unconditionally, and they, in turn, loved her. She will be missed and forever remembered.
Ann will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter, Beverly Dorey; her daughter- in-law, Brenda Krossa; and her two precious grandchildren: Jason, and Michelle (Kyle Fodor). She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister, Edna Schmidt; her sisters-in-law: Thordis Bailie (Don), Marie Liner, and Marg Brunner; her brothers-in-law: Fred (Eileen) Krossa, Al (Diane) Krossa; and Roger Ezeard; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, many other relatives, and a host of cherished friends. Ann was predeceased by her parents, Gottlieb and Susanna Reis; her beloved husband, Henry; her son, Dan; her son-in-law, Ernie Hudon; and her dancing partner, Don McFadyen. She was also predeceased by a large extended family: two brothers: Joe (Elsie) Reis, and Fred Reis; four sisters: Mary Odenbach (Albert), Kay Kozak (Allan), Rose Parker (Bill), and Elsie Neutzling (Ken); her mother and father-in-law, Hilda and Adolf Krossa; sisters-in-law: Martha Hill, Alma Kristensen (Paul), Ida Perry (Chuck), and Emma Ezeard; and her brothers-in-law: Paul (Gwladys) Krossa, Harry Liner, and John Brunner.
With respect for Ann's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Interment will take place in the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey at a later date.
